Happy New Year to everyone,
Does anyone have any predictions for what will happen in 2008? Here is a short list to get the predictions started:
- The Democratic nominee will win the Presidency. Right now, I don't see how Senator Hillary Clinton can lose;
- The Minnesota Twins will trade superstar Pitcher Johan Santana to the Yankees, and the Yankees will win the World Series;
- Israel will give up portions of Jerusalem, to quiet the world pressure upon them;
- The New England Patriots will win the Super Bowl, and have back-to-back undefeated seasons in 2008!!!

Would Israel giving up part of the city of Jerusalem fulfill the portion of prophecy that dictates Israel place her security into foreign hands?

Hey Ed,
There are two parts to the prophecy about Israel's capital, Jerusalem. First, God gave Jerusalem to Israel as part of the promised land. Second, Jerusalem would be trampeled by non-Jews "until the times of the Gentiles is fulfilled (Luke 21:24)."
So my thoughts on this is that any man-made attempts to gain peace by giving up parts of the Promised Land will garner God's anger. There is no way to create any kind of peace between Jew and Arab until Christ returns. I believe the times of the Gentiles described in Luke 21:24 is over, and so Israel should try and gain more and more of Jerusalem (including the Temple Mount), and not make an impossible attempt at man-made peace in these, the last days.
That's my two cents worth. /s/Tom
Would the time of the Gentiles have come to an end when the modern State of Israel was formed in 1948?
I'm too lazy to pull out my Bible right now, but don't I remember something about Israel handing over it's security to foreigners? This wasn't about Jerusalem in particular, but was to be a sign of end times. How does the church (yours at least) interpret that?

Mr. oleander,
Let me see if I can clarify your question. Luke 21:24 is Jesus' teaching about the last days and this verse says: "They (i.e., Israel)will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive among all nations, and Jerusalem will be trampled underfoot by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled."
And so, it is the capture of Jerusalem that appears to signal an end of the 'times of the Gentiles'. So it may be 1967 when Israel captured East Jerusalem that signifies an end of the times of the Gentiles. So the focus is that Jerusalem will no longer be trampled by Gentiles. I don't believe this has anything to do with Israel handing its security over to foreigners, as was raised in your last response. I hope this helps.
